Dell Laptops making Popping Sounds with Windows 7

Some Dell laptops make odd popping sounds when running Windows 7.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Right click the speaker icon in the taskbar
  2. Click Playback devices
  3. Click on the Audio device/speakers currently enabled (default device notated by green check mark)
  4. Click Properties button below
  5. Click the Enhancement Tab
  6. Uncheck all of the boxes in the Sound Effects window
  7. Click the "Disable all sound effects" or "disable all enhancements" checkbox
  8. Click OK
  9. Reboot the Computer
