A Problem Occurred While Accessing the Office Document Cache

You may encounter a message similar to the following when opening a Microsoft Office product:

Microsoft Office, Office 365, document, cach, problem, repair

or

Microsoft Office, Office 365, document, cach, problem, repair

or

Microsoft Office, Office 365, document, cach, problem, repair

This indicates that the Microsoft Office document cache is corrupted, unusable and cannot be repaired.

Resolution:

  1. Close all Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Lync, etc)
  2. Open the Task Manager
  3. Click the Processes tab (Windows 8/8.1/10 click the Details tab)
  4. End Task the process msosync.exe or any other process which has Microsoft Office Document Cache in the description
  5. Open File Explorer and navigate to "C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\", (where UserName is the name of the user account that you are currently using.) The version number after Office is 15.0 if you are using Office 2013 or Office 365, 14.0 if you are using Office 2010 or 12.0, if you are using Office 2007, etc
  6. Delete all folders that  contain OfficeFileCache in their name.
Microsoft Office will not recreate the Office Document Cache when you launch a Microsoft Office application.
